Summary
This study conducts an analysis on the film Burning. In general, considering the work offilmmaker Lee Chang-dong and the critical sense of South Korean New Wave directors, this analysisunfolds from a human point of view and focuses on the issue of globalisation. In analysing thetopic of research, the work is based on the theories of the Dutch researcher Jan NederveenPieterse regarding individual attitudes toward globalisation. Moreover, this analysis defines andinterprets these theories through the characters in the film, Jong-su, Hae-mi, and Ben. On the otherhand, after understanding the attitudes related to the characters and globalisation, a geopoliticalreading of each individual is provided, along with an interpretation of the film's discourse in termsof globalisation and lost Korean tradition. Lastly, the solution through violence that Lee Chang-dongassigns to this problem in the country, and its meaning, are the concluding topics of the analysis.
