Summary

The architecture of Basque town halls is widely recognized. However, the origin of this highly distinctive building typology remains largely unknown. The study of the old town hall of Andoain, demolished at the beginning of the last century and of which only a single photograph remains, provides essential data for understanding this origin and the developmental process of these architectural forms.
